New York is a vast concrete jungle, however, hidden between the brick and mortar buildings are some of NYC’s best parks. Most people think of New York City’s Central Park when imagining a green landscape, but that isn’t all the big apple has to offer! If you look a little closer, you’ll be able to find some pretty great parks without all of the crowds, yet still just as fun!

Bryant Park
Located adjacent to the New York Public Library sits Bryant Park, or as some call it, Manhattan’s Town Square. The park is home to over 1,000 various activities annually, any of which are free! Each season, Bryant Park hosts a variety of different dining, activities and interactive entertainment for those looking to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. During the spring, you will see the park green and lush, hosting several outdoor activities to ring in the warmer weather. Spring brings various outdoor festivals, live music, and several children’s activities. Summer brings a popular NYC staple, Shakespeare in the Park. Visitors will be able to see some of Shakespeare’s famous plays acted out while taking in the lush surroundings. As fall and winter approach, Bryant Park turns into a winter wonderland. Hot cocoa stands, holiday lights, and a holiday shopping village pops up for guests to browse from various local vendors.
Madison Square Park
As the name suggests, Madison Square Park is nestled right on Madison Avenue. At first glance, the park just looks like a nice green shortcut to get where you’re going in the city, but with a closer look, you’ll see some pretty cool stuff! Madison Square Park is unique in that it is always hosting various artists’ exhibitions for the public to see as they walk about the park. While admiring the art, you can take a break at one of the various food spots and chow down on delicious bites. Did we mention all of the activities hosted by the park are free! So, grab a blanket and take to the lawns for a nice relaxing day in the sun.
Chelsea Park
Chelsea Park is located on the west side of the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, only a few short blocks from the Hudson River. Looking for some physical activity? Look no further than this lush park destination. Chelsea Park is home to several sporting facilities like basketball courts, playgrounds, baseball field, running trails, and even a handball court! Chelsea Park also hosts a variety of park activities including art displays, kids’ activities, and even a Christmas market.
St. Vartan Park
Tucked away in Murray Hill, you’ll find St. Vartan Park, on of Manhattans most spacious parks. The park is home to large trees, keeping most of the park shaded during those hot summer months. St. Vartan Park hosts several sporting facilities including football fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, and baseball fields to name a few. There is even a wading pool for those sweltering New York summers! The park also hosts several types of live music and concerts that are free to the public. You can even get involved in team games, like a jigsaw puzzle competition or a game of team chess!
